Fat-Ass 50K | Other Races
Runners from 6 states arrived in North Adams for the start of the Fat-Ass 50k put on by the Western Mass. Athletic Club. Some planned to run only a lap or two of the 5.5 mile course, but several planned to go the entire 50k (31 miles). Most made it. Snow flurries began to fall just as the runners started and continued through the day.
Andrei Aroneanu of Ridgefield, NJ ran at, or near, the front to eventually pull away and win in 4 hours and 15 minutes. Dave James of Rye, NH and Steve Bugbee of Pittsfield, MA ran a tight race before James pushed it in to capture second.
